Veteran singer Nitin Mukesh recently got emotional as he looked back at one of the most important days of his life. It was the day he performed his very first concert after the death of his legendary father, playback icon Mukesh.

The memory came alive when he shared a rare black-and-white photograph on social media. The picture featured some of the biggest names of Indian cinema: Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, and R. D. Burman, standing by his side on that special evening.

The concert took place on November 10, 1976, just months after his father’s untimely death. Remembering the moment, Nitin Mukesh wrote in his caption: “MY FIRST CONCERT AFTER MY BELOVED PAPA LEFT US… 10TH NOVEMBER 1976….AND THEY ALLLL CAME TO WISH ME ONLY THE BEST….GRATEFUL FOREVER (sic).”

After that emotional beginning, Nitin Mukesh went on to make a name for himself in the 1980s and 1990s. He worked with legendary music directors such as Khayyam, RD Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem-Shravan, and Anand-Milind.

His soulful voice was often the playback for stars like Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff. Over the years, he created many hit songs.

Nitin also sang memorable duets with some of the greatest singers of India, including Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhana Sargam, and Alka Yagnik.

From the peppy “My Name Is Lakhan” to the evergreen “So Gaya Yeh Jahan,” Nitin Mukesh gave Bollywood many unforgettable tracks.

Other famous numbers include “Hanste Hanste Kat Jayen Raste,” “Dil Ne Dil Se Kaha,” “Zindagi Har Kadam,” “Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi,” “Chandi Ki Cycle,” “Paisa Bolta Hai,” and “Wafa Na Raas Aayee.”

Nitin’s father, Mukesh, one of India’s most loved playback singers, died of a heart attack on August 27, 1976, in Detroit, USA. He had gone there to perform in a concert.
